Sanford “Sandy” Ring is Vice President and General Counsel for Hino Motors Manufacturing USA, Inc., a Toyota Group company. Hino produces Class 6-7 commercial trucks, as well as supplies various parts for the Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, and Sequoia.
Ring was appointed to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Executive Committee in 2009.
Ring started his career as a labor and employment lawyer in 1990 with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, in Washington D.C.
In 1992, he was appointed by then President George H.W. Bush to serve as Chief Counsel to the Democratic Chairman of the U.S. International Trade Commission; he served in the same capacity to a subsequent Republican Chairman.
Upon returning to private practice in 1998, including an affiliation with the Washington, D.C. office of Dykema, Ring focused on international trade and federal and state lobbying matters, including representing several automotive suppliers and other manufacturing interests. Ring also helped form a coalition of tool, die and mold companies, and was recognized by the Michigan Manufacturers Association for his efforts.
In 2004, Ring joined the Michigan Economic Development Corporation as Chief Operating Officer.
In 2007, he was affiliated with Detroit-based Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn, and co-founded the Firm's Alternative Energy practice team, in addition to launching its International Trade practice group.
Ring is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University and the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
